 Overview

This board book edition of Eric Carle's classic story begins one sunny Sunday, when the caterpillar was hatched out of a tiny egg. He was very hungry. On Monday, he ate through one apple; on Tuesday, he ate through three plums—and still he was hungry. Strikingly bold, colorful pictures and a simple text in large, clear type tell the story of a hungry little caterpillar's progress through an amazing variety and quantity of foods. Full at last, he made a cocoon around himself and went to sleep, to wake up a few weeks later wonderfully transformed into a butterfly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully illustrated This book is a wonderful, colorful, artfully illustrated masterpiece. The story of tiny caterpillar to butterfly is a great starting place for preschool science discussions, as well as for talking about not judging a "book by its cover". Love this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of Our Favorites This book is an enduring classic for a reason. In one short, entertaining book it teaches days of the week and counting, with plenty of opportunity to teach colors, too. Our nine-month-old loves the pictures and loves sticking her fingers in the holes, too. Miraculously, I haven't tired of reading it yet, either!
